Career
Uira Ribeiro began his career in technology in 1995 when he founded his own BBS, Magic Way BBS, which had 48 nodes and operated in his own room. In 1997, with the arrival of the Internet in Brazil, through the [National Research Network], it requested the installation of a 128kbs Internet link. Internet routers were expensive at the time, and the alternative was to make your own router with Linux. This is where his passion for Linux was born, which continues to this day.
In 1998, Uira sold his BBS for a good offer to Prointernet, a large Internet provider. There he worked for 2 years, with Cisco Systems routers and also with Linux, Apache Web Servers, User Authentication, etc.
In 2000, Uira went to work at Lucent Technologies with Voice Over IP, participating in several projects in New Jersey (USA) and Chile.
In 2003, with the closure of the Lucent unit in Belo Horizonte, Uira was invited to develop a Virtual Learning Environment for a graduate company in the Environment. The first version of the site was made in ASP, when there was practically no mention of distance learning.
His contact with education led him to publish his first book, in partnership with his wife, Carla Cruz, called Scientific Methodology: Theory and Practice. This book, in addition to containing the entire methodology of a scientific work, contains software to format the work according to the standards of the ABNT [Brazilian Association of Technical Standards]. This software makes it possible to format a TCC in less than 20 minutes.
In 2005, he was invited to work at the Salgado de Oliveira University as manager of the Information Systems course in Salvador, Bahia. In six months, he was promoted to Academic Director (Belo Horizonte, MG), responsible for 16 undergraduate courses (2006-2010).
His ability to create tools to assist in the academy, Uira was promoted to Technology Director of the Universo/Unitri group (2010-2015), and during this period he developed the University’s Virtual Secretariat, among several other tools. After 5 years in office, he was promoted to Campus Director General (2015 to date).
Since 2005 he has been an instructor of online courses on the Linux Certification platform, where he developed his own PHP platform, using Cloud Computing technologies such as AWS and Docker., with the student’s availability to run laboratories on AWS servers.
As a software developer, Uira is currently working on 27 projects in the languages PHP, Python and Javascript.
